Practical help
The Guild has a number of bell consultants who can give advice to towers on matters concerning bells and fittings.
- Examples of areas that can be advised on are: the best way to proceed with maintenance, repairs, restorations and augmentations; sound control; issues affecting individual bells (slipping wheel, wearing ropes, odd-struckness, etc).
If you would like a chat with or a visit from an advisor please contact the Bell Advisors’ Coordinator via the contacts page or click here.
The coordinator and consultants can sometimes help to arrange labour for minor repairs or to assist with major work thereby keeping costs down.
Financial help
The Bell Fund, which operates as a separate charity, can offer financial help to churches undertaking work on their bells. Eligible work ranges minor, e.g. re-bushing clappers or refurbishing pulleys, through to major overhauls, re-hanging or augmentation. Replacing consumables such as stays or ropes is normally outside the scope.
If you are planning some work and might need a grant then contact the Bell Fund Secretary. The trustees can usually give a quick response as to what help might be available. Find their contact details here.
